The word “vessel” denotes anything made for the conveyance by water of human beings or of property.
Why this exists
The IPC uses many technical terms in offences relating to property, transport, and public safety (like theft of vessels or mischief to vessels). To avoid confusion about what counts as a 'vessel,' the drafters included this definition clause so courts and citizens have a clear, consistent meaning across the Code.

- Myth: 'Vessel' only means large ships.
Fact: Under this definition, 'vessel' includes any object made to carry people or goods by water—so small boats, canoes, and rafts count too, not just big ships.
