Section 271

Acquittal or conviction

Why this exists

This concludes the complaint-based warrant trial with the same core fairness protections seen elsewhere in the Code: a genuine acquittal where the evidence doesn't establish guilt, a separate hearing on sentence to avoid rushing punishment, and the same wall of silence around any disputed prior conviction until current guilt is settled, so it can't unfairly colour the decision on the present charge. It mirrors section 248 of the earlier Code of Criminal Procedure.
