Indian Penal Code, 1860
Section 448
repealedPunishment for house-trespass
Whoever commits house-trespass shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
Why this exists
Because house-trespass involves intruding into a dwelling, place of worship, or place where property is stored, rather than just open land, this section sets a noticeably higher punishment than plain criminal trespass, reflecting the greater sense of violation and risk involved when someone's home or sacred space is entered without permission.
