Indian Penal Code, 1860
Section 245
repealedUnlawfully taking coining instrument from mint
Whoever, without lawful authority, takes out of any mint, lawfully established in India, any coining tool or instrument, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.
Why this exists
The specialised tools and dies used inside a government mint are extremely dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands, since they can be used directly to produce convincing counterfeit coin. This section prevents such tools from leaving the mint without proper authorisation, cutting off a critical potential source of counterfeiting equipment at its origin.
