Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023
Section 386
When Registrar or Sub-Registrar to be deemed a Civil Court
When the State Government so directs, any Registrar or any Sub-Registrar appointed under the Registration Act, 1908 (16 of 1908), shall be deemed to be a Civil Court within the meaning of sections 384 and 385.
Why this exists
Registrars and Sub-Registrars handle document registration and sometimes face the same kind of disruptive or insulting behaviour that courts do, but they are not ordinarily 'courts.' This section allows the State Government to extend the same-day contempt-handling powers (sections 384 and 385) to them, so they too can maintain order and respect during their official functions.
